I was browsing the Nordstrom Plus Size Shop's special occasion dresses and was inspired by this romantic lace dress by JS Boutique. So I made this look for an informal summer wedding! :) I am very traditional when it comes to weddings so I chose white on white in everything from the dress to the accessories. Pearls and lace are always a classic when it comes to weddings. But my favorite are the shoes! It's a satin Nina Paladin pair I saw at zappos.com and I thought the bow is precious. :)
This is a great look for a June bride for under $500. Again, click on the photo for prices and details!
And to all 2009 brides: congratulations, have fun and soak it all in! :)

Who Inspires Me? #001

N and I were talking yesterday about Manny being one of the greatest Filipino athletes of all time. Fresh from serving Ricky Hatton a left hook that knocked his lights out, he answered questions from the media with the humility and graciousness of a real champ.
"I always do my best to make people happy. I hope everybody is happy! Thank you for coming here tonight!"
No doubt Pacman is the best boxer in the world at the moment, but what inspires me about him is not what he does to his opponents but what he stands for and what he is to the Filipino people. It's three things: hard work, love for God and love for country. He always says that he is here to show every Filipino that through hard work, dedication and faith in God you can achieve anything in life. And the Filipino youth desperately needs that kind of positive encouragement right now.
I pray that Manny will continue his winning journey, that he will always stay grounded and keep on giving to the poor. I pray that he will be protected against his opponents and most especially the evil and corrupt politicians in our society.
I am grateful that I live in this lifetime to witness someone like him. It will take a long while before another Manny Pacquiao comes along. :)

Dumpster Diving Sunday
I found an armchair by our building's basement dumpster today and it's in perfect condition! :) Ooooh how I love great finds! Especially if it's free and recycled! Hey, anything to help the ailing environment right? I am also an avid thrift store and goodwill shopper, it's not only cheap, you also get one of a kind items that are usually well-made and not available in stores anymore. Once in a while whenever possible, we should steer clear from our consumer-driven society and buy second hand!
It's an Ikea Jennylund and it included a washable cover. It's gonna look sweet in our new apartment this fall.

Low Budget Look: Faith 21
Turned out I was right. However, I am still quite optimistic in trying out their new line only because a lot of the lovely women over at a forum I frequent say that some of their straight sizes fit them depending on the material. Usually, an 18/20 can fit into their Large or XL jersey knit items. The prices are also hard to match compared to other plus size retail stores, but of course quality is questionable.

Here's a low budget look I made using Faith 21's new frock, click on the image to view pricing and details.
Always remember to have fun with your clothes and it doesn't matter where you buy them, it's how you wear them! :)

Trader Joe's Makes Highly Addictive Cookies
Like a certified tea junkie, I am always on the lookout for something to eat while sipping my favorite cup of tea. Top of my list is of course the classic scone, and my favorite is the almond flavored kind with tiny slivered almonds in the middle. Second is a hard to get Dutch waffle pastry called siroopwafelen which I accidentally picked up at a Dutch sweets shop in Holland, MI. I've tried three brands and the best one hands down is the Gouda's Gilde Stroopwafels. It's so light and chewy and perfect! It's made of 100% butter and has a very thin layer of syrup in the middle which melts in your mouth while you eat it. It's even better if you stick it in the microwave for a few seconds to warm it up and drink it with your hot tea or coffee.
Unfortunately, it's not available in your regular grocery stores. :(
Which brings me to Trader Joe's Belgian Butter Waffle Cookies. I was at TJ's the other day to pick up my favorite peanuts when I saw these and thought it might satisfy my longing for the elusive stroopwafels. Well, it didn't. BUT, it was still worth it!
These cookies are not chewy but crunchy, no heavenly syrup in the middle but had the same waffle texture and supreme buttery taste. I especially love the fact that it is not perfectly round, I dunno why, but I do. :D It goes perfectly with my tea and best of all, it's easy to find.
A bit of a warning though, it's highly addictive and everyone in your household might like it.
